1. Accepting these terms
By using FixingBook, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use protected features or apply instructions from the registry. If you use FixingBook for an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to act for it.
2. Accounts and authentication
- Provide accurate account information and keep access to your email and OAuth accounts secure.
- Do not share authentication links, recovery links, or session credentials.
- You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless you promptly report unauthorized access.
- Roles, permissions, ownership, reputation, and moderation authority are determined by FixingBook’s server-side records.
3. Safe use of technical guides
Before applying a guide, confirm that its operating system, hardware, software version, and risk level match your environment. Read the whole guide and rollback information first. Back up important data and save recovery keys before changing storage, encryption, boot, firmware, registry, network, or security settings.
Stop if a command differs from what the guide describes, if your device shows signs of physical failure, or if you do not understand a privileged action. For workplace, medical, safety-critical, production, or irreplaceable systems, use an appropriately qualified technician.
4. Community contributions
You retain ownership of original material you submit. To operate and preserve the registry, you grant FixingBook a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, format, display, moderate, revise for safety or clarity, and distribute your contribution through the service. This platform license does not make FixingBook’s application source code open source and does not automatically place your contribution under a public open-source license.
You confirm that you have the right to submit the material and that it does not expose confidential information, personal data, malware, pirated files, or content that infringes another person’s rights. Clearly identify third-party code, tools, and licenses.
5. Votes, verification, and reputation
- Vote or verify only from your own account and only when the action reflects your genuine experience.
- Do not verify your own guide, coordinate fake confirmations, use duplicate accounts, or manipulate reputation.
- A Verified mark reflects recorded community evidence for a specific revision. It may be removed when a guide changes, becomes outdated, or receives credible safety reports.
- FixingBook may reverse fraudulent, duplicated, mistaken, or abusive ledger events.
6. Prohibited conduct
You may not use FixingBook to break the law, access systems without authorization, distribute malicious code, bypass security controls for abuse, expose credentials or personal information, harass others, spam, scrape at a harmful rate, evade restrictions, or interfere with the service. Responsible security discussion must be defensive, authorized, and written to minimize misuse.
7. Moderation and enforcement
Maintainers may label, edit, restrict, archive, reject, or remove content when reasonably necessary for safety, accuracy, privacy, intellectual-property concerns, or community integrity. Accounts may receive warnings, cooldowns, temporary restrictions, moderator review, suspension, or termination. Where practical and safe, enforcement will be proportionate and users may contact us to request review.
8. Availability and changes
We may change, pause, or discontinue features to maintain security, reliability, or the nonprofit mission. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or permanent preservation of every account or contribution. Important material should not rely on FixingBook as its only backup.
9. Warranties and liability
FixingBook and its content are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim implied warranties of accuracy, fitness, merchantability, non-infringement, and uninterrupted operation. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the extent permitted by law, FixingBook’s maintainers, moderators, and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss arising from use of the service, including data loss, downtime, repair cost, or device damage. Your safest remedy when a guide appears unsuitable is not to run it.
10. Reports, disputes, and changes
Report unsafe content, infringement, account misuse, or a dispute to team@fixingbook.com with the relevant URL and enough detail to investigate. These terms are governed by applicable law; mandatory consumer rights in your location remain unaffected.
We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, an in-product notice. Continued use after an update means the revised terms apply from their effective date.
