Fix STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error in Microsoft Edge

Problem overview

The STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error causes Microsoft Edge pages to crash abruptly, often displaying an “Aw, Snap!” message. This memory management error prevents pages from rendering correctly.

Common causes

• Experimental Edge flags causing instability
• Incompatible or corrupt browser extensions
• Hardware acceleration conflicts with GPU drivers
• Corrupt browser installation or local data

Solution 1: Disable hardware acceleration

Conflicting graphics drivers are a primary cause of access violation errors.

1. Open Microsoft Edge and click the three dots in the top-right corner.
2. Select Settings, then choose System and performance on the left.
3. Turn off the toggle for Use hardware acceleration when available.
4. Click the Restart button to apply the changes.

Solution 2: Reset Edge flags

Experimental features enabled via Edge flags often cause instability.

1. Type edge://flags in the Edge address bar and press Enter.
2. Click the Reset all button in the top right corner.
3. Click the Restart button at the bottom of the screen.

Solution 3: Repair Microsoft Edge
