Before you begin
Problem overview
Games protected by Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) fail to start, throwing Error 30005 along with a “CreateFile failed” message. This prevents you from launching the game completely.
Common causes
- Corrupted EAC installation files
- Antivirus or Windows Defender blocking or quarantining EAC components
- Missing administrator permissions for the game or launcher
- Leftover driver files from previous EAC sessions locking the system
Solution 1: Repair the Easy Anti-Cheat service
- Navigate to the installation folder of the game causing the error.
- Open the
EasyAntiCheatfolder (sometimes found inside an_installerfolder). - Right-click on
EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exeand choose Run as administrator. - Select your game from the dropdown menu and click Repair Service.
- Wait for the process to finish and click Finish.
If the repair option is grayed out, choose to install it instead.
Solution 2: Delete the sys file and verify integrity
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat. - Locate the file named
EasyAntiCheat.sysand delete it. - Open your game launcher (Steam, Epic Games, etc.).
- Right-click the game in your library and navigate to its properties.
- Select Verify integrity of game files to redownload a fresh copy of the missing file.
Solution 3: Check your antivirus software
- Open your antivirus or Windows Security dashboard.
- Navigate to your protection history or quarantine section.
- Look for any files related to EAC or your game executable.
- If found, restore the files and add the game’s installation folder to your antivirus exceptions list.
Never disable your antivirus completely while playing online games. Only add specific folder exceptions for trusted software.
Confirm the result
- Repeat the exact action that originally triggered the problem.
- Confirm the original error or symptom is gone and no new warning has appeared.
- If the guide changed a driver, service, package, or system setting, restart once and test again.
- If the result is worse or unexpected, stop. Reverse only the last change using its documented restore option; if none is documented, use your backup or qualified support.
