Before you begin
Problem overview
Brave Browser users often experience issues where their earned Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) fail to sync across devices, do not deposit into their verified wallets, or display incorrect balances in the Brave Rewards panel.
Common causes
- Disconnected or flagged custodial wallet (Uphold, Gemini)
- Regional restrictions on Brave Ads or specific custodial partners
- Outdated Brave browser version
- Reaching the maximum device limit for a single custodial wallet
Solution 1: Reconnect your custodial wallet
Connection tokens between Brave and your wallet provider can expire or become corrupted.
- Open Brave and click the BAT triangle icon in the address bar.
- Click Brave Rewards to open the full settings page (
brave://rewards). - Locate the Connected status next to your wallet provider (e.g., Uphold or Gemini).
- Click the Disconnect button.
- Restart your browser, return to the Rewards page, and click Connect to log back in and reauthorize the link.
Solution 2: Verify regional support and ad settings
Brave Ads and custodial wallets are not available in all regions, and settings can sometimes revert.
- Go to
brave://rewards. - Ensure the main Brave Private Ads toggle is turned on.
- Check the official Brave community forums to confirm your country is currently supported for your chosen wallet provider.
- Review your device’s regional settings (Windows Settings > Time & language > Region) to ensure they match your actual location, as mismatches can flag your account.
If your browser says your profile is “Flagged,” you must wait for the automated system to review your account, or open a support ticket on the Brave Community forums.
Solution 3: Update Brave Browser
Rewards syncing relies on the latest cryptographic protocols, requiring an up-to-date browser.
- Click the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top right corner.
- Select Help, then About Brave.
- Brave will automatically check for and download any pending updates.
- Click Relaunch to apply the update and trigger a fresh sync attempt with the Rewards servers.
Confirm the result
- Repeat the exact action that originally triggered the problem.
- Confirm the original error or symptom is gone and no new warning has appeared.
- If the guide changed a driver, service, package, or system setting, restart once and test again.
- If the result is worse or unexpected, stop. Reverse only the last change using its documented restore option; if none is documented, use your backup or qualified support.
Questions about this fix
Why hasn't my monthly BAT arrived yet?
Payouts happen on a monthly cycle, usually between the 7th and 10th of the month. Delays are common during processing.
Do I lose my BAT if I don't verify a wallet?
Unverified BAT is stored locally in your browser profile. If you lose or reset your device without verifying, the local BAT is lost.
