Problem overview

Your Android device randomly disconnects from Wi-Fi networks or refuses to connect altogether. The connection drops frequently, forcing the phone to rely on cellular data.

Common causes

  • Corrupted saved network profiles
  • IP address conflicts on the router
  • Aggressive Wi-Fi power-saving features
  • Interference from other networks or devices

Solution 1: Forget and reconnect to the network

  1. Open Settings and tap Network & internet or Connections.
  2. Select Wi-Fi and tap the gear icon next to your problematic network.
  3. Tap Forget.
  4. Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
  5. Tap the network name and re-enter your password to connect.
Expert Tip

Try toggling Airplane mode on for 15 seconds and then off before reconnecting. This forces the device to refresh all radio connections.

Solution 2: Set a static IP address

  1. Open Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the gear icon next to your network.
  2. Tap the pencil icon or Advanced to edit network details.
  3. Change IP settings from DHCP to Static.
  4. Enter an IP address outside your router’s typical assignment range (e.g., change the last digits to something like 192.168.1.250).
  5. Save the configuration and check the connection stability.

Solution 3: Reset all network settings

  1. Go to Settings and tap System.
  2. Tap Reset options.
  3. Select Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  4. Tap Reset settings and confirm with your PIN.
  5. Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network from scratch.
Caution

You will lose all saved Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi passwords when resetting network settings.

Confirm the result

  1. Repeat the exact action that originally triggered the problem.
  2. Confirm the original error or symptom is gone and no new warning has appeared.
  3. If the guide changed a driver, service, package, or system setting, restart once and test again.
  4. If the result is worse or unexpected, stop. Reverse only the last change using its documented restore option; if none is documented, use your backup or qualified support.
