Problem overview
Your phone fails to pair with a Bluetooth accessory, or drops the connection randomly. Devices may show up in the pairing list but refuse to connect when tapped.
Common causes
- Corrupted Bluetooth cache data
- Protocol version mismatches, especially with older car audio systems
- Interference from other active Bluetooth devices
- Outdated accessory firmware
Solution 1: Clear the Bluetooth cache
- Open Settings and go to Apps.
- Tap See all apps.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Show system.
- Scroll down and tap Bluetooth.
- Tap Storage & cache, then select Clear cache.
- Restart your phone and attempt pairing again.
If clearing the cache fails, try selecting Clear storage in the same menu. You will need to re-pair all your devices afterward.
Solution 2: Forget and re-pair the device
- Go to Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth.
- Tap the gear icon next to the malfunctioning device.
- Select Forget.
- Put the accessory back into pairing mode.
- Tap Pair new device on your phone and select the accessory to reconnect.
Solution 3: Adjust AVRCP version for car audio
- Go to Settings > About phone and tap Build number seven times to enable Developer options.
- Navigate back to Settings > System > Developer options.
- Scroll down to Bluetooth AVRCP Version.
- Change the setting from the default to 1.4 or 1.3.
- Restart your phone and try connecting to your car again.
Confirm the result
- Repeat the exact action that originally triggered the problem.
- Confirm the original error or symptom is gone and no new warning has appeared.
- If the guide changed a driver, service, package, or system setting, restart once and test again.
- If the result is worse or unexpected, stop. Reverse only the last change using its documented restore option; if none is documented, use your backup or qualified support.
